How to Replace Taillight Lenses
- 1). Look at the taillight and determine what tool is necessary to remove the existing taillight lens. There are often visible screws or fasteners to be removed.
- 2). Use the appropriate removal tool to remove the fasteners holding the taillight lens to the vehicle. Be careful not to lose the fasteners.
- 3). Pull out the lens and attached assembly. Do so gently, so you don't break the wires attached to the assembly.
- 4). Disconnect the wires at the assembly you are removing. This usually involves removing the light socket from the assembly by turning the light socket a quarter of a turn to the left.
- 5). Set the old taillight lens aside.
- 6). Hold the new taillight assembly up near the taillight.
- 7). Replace the light socket and turn it a quarter of a turn to the right to secure it to the assembly.
- 8). Set the taillight into place, lining up the fastener holes.
- 9). Replace the fasteners, tightening until snug, but not overtightening.
