IBS as we all know is a common disease with symptoms such as bloating, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and pain in the stomach.
Although the IBS can have a negative affect on your intestines.
That is about all it can really do to harm you physically.
Mentally however, it can cause a lot of discomfort.
But it cannot lead to anything like cancer, so that may be a comfort to know.
Causes It has not yet been determined what the cause of IBS is.
It may however safely be said that all people are made differently and have different metabolisms.
While some people are unaffected by certain foods, others can not digest them as well.
Also, some people have sensitive colons, and they can get inflamed easily.
It is widely said that the immune systems too play a role in the development of IBS.
How it can be controlled IBS can be controlled with medicine, as well as with the right diet plan.
More people than you could imagine suffer from it - that is about twenty per cent adult Americans, more of which are surprisingly women, That is not to say that the male population is unaffected.
This disease tends to show up around the age of 35.
The absence of certain foods and the inclusion of certain fibers in your diet can help you cope with IBS.
The Diet Well, you may be thinking that any diet can never be tasty! It is not so as far as the IBS diet goes.
In fact it can be a delicious menu of foods that will not inflame your colon.
It would include a few drinks, some appetizers, lots of salad, a main course and a desert if not more.
The diet ingredients can be varied as per choice and taste, but remember that there are certain foods which can have a negative effect on you.
You need to stay away from French fries and fatty food.
You also need to refrain from alcohol, soda and chocolates, as well as ice cream and dairy products like cheese (which is fattening) and milk.
Do consult a dietician to make a diet plan for you which could still be tasty and nutritious at the same time.
Get a lot of fiber into your body and that will really help you cope with IBS.
A fibrous diet leads to a fibrous stool, making bowel movement that much more comforting.
Fruits, cereal, vegetables and brown brad can increase the fiber in your stool.
But keep in mind - Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will you get over IBS ina day.
Do not try and suddenly eat ONLY fiber - your body needs a little time to stop getting French fries and start loving fiber! However, a gradual change to a good fiber diet will ensure good health all round, not just freedom from IBS.
