How to Build Your Own Video Server
- 1). Upgrade and install additional RAM.
Unlock the retaining clips by pressing them outward and install the RAM module in the DIMM socket. Press the retaining clips inward to lock the socket. - 2). Install a larger hard drive.
Insert the hard drive into one of the bays. Secure it by using two screws on either side of the drive. Connect the power cord and data cable. Make sure your server supports the right hard drive. Newer PCs use SATA technology, while old PCs use parallel ATA IDE technology. - 3). Install a digital TV tuner card.
Take out the chassis grill from one of the PCI-Express slots. Match up the digital TV tuner card with the slot, and then firmly push it in. - 4). Install a wireless network card.
Take out another chassis grill from one of the PCI-Express slots. Align the wireless network card with the slot, and firmly press it in. - 5). Install a DVD rewriter drive to alleviate space on your hard drive.
Slide the DVD rewriter drive into one of the empty bays. Use screws to tighten it so that it does not move. Connect a power cord and data cable to the DVD rewriter drive. Close your computer case. - 6). Connect your television and stereo to your network via the digital media adapter.
Connect your television or stereo to the digital media adapter. Connect the digital media adapter to your network using an Ethernet cable. Use the software that came with the digital media adapter so that the video server will detect it.
