How to Install a Muffler on a Pontiac
- 1). Align the mounting holes on the muffler with the mounting flange on the end of the exhaust piping.
- 2). Place an exhaust gasket between the Pontiac's muffler and the exhaust piping.
- 3). Thread the bolts through the muffler bracket, and tighten them to secure the Pontiac's muffler to the exhaust piping.
- 4). Slide the metal hook on the top of the Pontiac's muffler through the rubber loop hook on the underside of the body. The mufflers for Pontiac vehicles "float" on this hook while they are attached to the exhaust piping. This ensures even airflow while not being bolted to any part of the vehicle (to prevent heat from transferring to the body or other heat sensitive components, such as body panels).
