How to Convert VHS Tape to DVD Format
- 1). Insert the yellow, white and red plugs on one end of the composite AV cable into the color-matching output jacks on the back of the combo DVD recorder/VCR. Insert the other ends of the cable into the matching input jacks on the back of a TV. Turn on the equipment so that you can monitor the recording on the TV.
- 2). Eject the DVD recorder media tray, insert a blank DVD shiny-side down in the tray, and close the tray.
- 3). Insert a recorded VHS tape into the front of the VCR built into the DVD recorder combo unit. Cue the tape to the chosen spot to begin recording, by either pressing the "Rewind" or Fast-Forward" button.
- 4). Press the "Set-up" or "Menu" button on the DVD recorder/VCR remote control to access the dubbing function. The menu options will display on the TV screen. Select "Dub" or "Copy," depending on the model, by using the up and down arrow keys on the remote control, and press the "Enter" key.
- 5). Press the button under the dubbing control panel on the component labeled "VCR" with an arrow pointing toward the DVD recorder. This instructs the machine to dub from videotape to disc, as some components can also dub from DVD to videotape.
- 6). Press and hold the "Dub" or "Copy" button on the remote control until the LED illuminates "Dubbing" or "Copying" on the component's display screen.
- 7). Press the "Stop" button when the videotape ends, press the "Setup" or "Menu" button once more, using the up and down arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "Finalize," and press the "Enter" key. Finalization encodes the disc so you can play it on other DVD equipment.
