How to Make a Party Popper Firecracker
- 1). Measure the length of an empty cardboard toilet paper roll using a flexible measuring tape. Add 2 inches to this total. Measure the circumference of the toilet paper roll. Add 1 inch to this total. Use these measurements to cut a piece of tissue paper in any color you would like.
- 2). Cut a piece of wrapping paper in any color or pattern you would like. Use the same measurements you used from Step 1, but this time add 1-1/2 inches to the length. Leave the width measurement the same as the first step.
- 3). Use a pair of scissors to cut the toilet paper roll in half across the center of the roll. You should have two equal halves.
- 4). Lay your cut tissue paper out on your work surface. Place the two halves of the toilet paper roll onto the center of the tissue paper. Press the two cut ends together so it looks as if the roll is still one piece. Place a piece of tape on the edge of the tissue paper and use the tape to attach the tissue paper to the toilet paper roll. Roll the two halves of the roll up into the tissue paper, sealing the loose end of the tissue paper with more tape. When this is completed, the tissue paper will overlap itself by 1 inch, and you will have 1 inch of tissue paper jutting beyond the toilet paper roll on each end.
- 5). Lay your wrapping paper out on your work surface with the right side facing down. Place the tissue paper--wrapped toilet paper roll in the center of the wrapping paper. Use a piece of tape to attach the edge of the wrapping paper to the tissue paper--covered roll. Wrap the wrapping paper around the roll and tape the loose end of the wrapping paper with more tape. The result will be the same as in Step 4, only you will see a bit of tissue paper sticking out beyond the ends of the wrapping paper.
- 6). Fill the inside of the toilet paper roll with party favors, such as small toys, confetti and candy. You can insert the favors through one of the open ends of the roll. Use your free hand to keep the favors from falling out the other end.
- 7). Cut two lengths of curling ribbon that are 8 inches long and in a complementary color to your wrapping paper. Tie the ribbon around the ends of the paper covered rolls. Make sure to tie the ribbons close to the toilet paper roll. Tie the ribbon gently to avoid tearing your paper. Use your scissors to curl the curling ribbon. To do this, open your scissors and place a piece of the curling ribbon over the scissor blade. Gently place your thumb against the ribbon, trapping it between the blade and your thumb. Pull the ribbon across the blade to curl it.
- 8). Repeat all steps until you have created all of the party popper firecrackers you want.
