When someone is diagnosed with infertility, one of the first reactions is to know more about it.
I know I did.
I have always believed that knowing everything there is to know about it is the best way to overcome it.
And one of the first things that I found very related to infertility is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS.
So what is it? This is the condition wherein a woman produces high levels of male hormones also known as androgens.
And this abnormality in hormone production is brought about by excessive insulin production.
And if you're wondering, yes, this may lead to diabetes.
Let me show you why PCOS causes infertility.
1.
During the menstrual cycles, several follicles develop within the ovaries.
Each follicle contains an egg.
These eggs will mature and cause ovulation.
And we all know how important ovulation is if you want to conceive.
2.
A woman with PCOS do not have enough female hormones.
This shortage will, in effect, cause the follicles not to mature, thus, no ovulation happens.
3.
These follicles may later develop into cysts inside the ovary.
This would hinder any ovulation to occur and cause the lining of your uterus to thicken.
Okay, I hope you understand what I just said there! Now that we have that all cleared up, let me enumerate some of the most commons signs that indeed, PCOS is what's causing your problem to conceive.
Remember, these are symptoms and not causes of PCOS.
1.
Absence of or an irregular period (age can be a factor here) 2.
Increased hair growth on back, chest or face 3.
Thinning hair 4.
Obesity 5.
High insulin levels or Type 2 Diabetes 6.
Acne 7.
Pelvic Pains
