How to Clean HP Printheads at Home
- 1). Turn on the printer and allow it to complete its initialization procedures. Once the printer is silent, hold down the "Power" button while you press the "Resume" button six times, then release the "Power" button.
- 2). Examine the print quality after running the printer's cleaning utility. Run the cleaning utility up to three more times if you do not see an improvement.
- 3). Open the printer's top or front cover and wait for the carriage to stop moving. Unplug the power cord from the printer and then the outlet.
- 4). Lift up the print head's latch, then lift the print head out of its spot inside the printer. Wipe the contact pads on the print head with a dry microfiber cloth, then put the print head on a paper towel so the nozzles do not touch the paper towel.
- 5). Clean the metallic contacts in the print head's slot in the printer using a dry microfiber cloth. Plug the power cord back in at both ends, then reinstall the print head in its slot.
- 6). Lower the latch over the print head, then push on it to make sure it is locked into place. Close the printer's cover.
