How to Refill the Lexmark 28A & 29A Cartridges
- 1). Place the ink cartridge and the refill kit contents on a piece of paper towel. Remove the label from the ink cartridge. The 28A refill kit will have one black ink one syringe and a thumb drill. The 29A refill kit will have one bottle of each ink color, one thumb drill and three syringes.
- 2). Place a toothpick in each of the color refill holes to see what color is where on the cartridge. The black refill hole is at the top on the left side. Use the thumb drill to open the refill hole so it is large enough for the syringe needle. Place the tip of the drill on the hole and twist until the hole opens up.
- 3). Fill the syringe with the color. Insert the needle into the bottle of ink. Pull up on the top to draw out the ink for each color. Each color syringe is filled with 7 milliliters of ink and the black ink cartridge is filled with 15 milliliters of ink.
- 4). Insert the needle into the correct refill hole. Slowly press down on the top to inject the ink into the cartridge. If the ink seeps out the refill hole while filling, stop filling the cartridge and wipe up the ink with the paper towel. Fill each color on the color ink cartridge.
- 5). Replace the Lexmark 28A and/or 29A in the printer and run three test pages. Use any document that has black print for the black ink cartridge or a document with color for the color ink cartridge. This will cycle the ink.
