103 9
So, you want to organize your garage.
You are not alone since we all have a garage that is in dis-array.
Perhaps yours is like most with unlabeled boxes, tools everywhere and Christmas and Halloween decor scattered about.
Making it virtually impossible to find anything, let alone use the garage for it's primary purpose...
to park and house your vehicle.
If you are like most, one of the items on your things-to-do list is organize your garage.
However, you keep putting it off simply because the task is to overwhelming.
Or perhaps, you simply have no idea where to start.
Well, the same as any other thing, that's not really difficult when you know how to.
As soon as you pass over your initial hurdles, divide it into easy stages, it can be rather easy to organize your garage.
In the event that is one of your goals, please read on to find a simple 3-step way that you can organize your garage...
The initial important step is determine exactly what purpose your garage is going to serve.
Also, what items are going to go in there.
You're going to need to do that because if the primary purpose of your garage is to be a woodworking shop, then it will be good to know that when we run across the kids toys, scooters and bikes.
It will make it much easier in determining what stays and what doesn't.
In taking this initial step, you need to make a list of exactly what you want the garage used for, what part of the garage you want to use for what purpose, and what items are going to go there.
You'll want to add to your list any tools or additional items such as peg boards or storage bins that you will need to accomplish this task.
Following that, the second step is going to be get everything out of the garage and place items with like items.
This way you can see exactly what you got.
A good idea here is to use your driveway to sort items in piles and categories.
Things that you will want to do here are identify items that are broken, or perhaps no longer needed and get rid of them.
Also, dispose of any open paint cans, chemicals or hazardous materials carefully.
This is a great time to sweep and clean your garage from top to bottom now that everything is out of there.
Take note of the amount of available space you have.
If you believe you will run into issues here you have options, You can make use of vertical space by hanging things on the wall.
Another option is free standing and floating shelve units.
There are many options available here to allow you to maximize space.
If you feel you are going to require these, now would be a good time to get these prior to moving forward.
Lastly, your third (as well as the final) step is once you have everything categorized, place them back into your garage one at a time.
Keep in mind how much each item is used here.
This will be of crucial importance because items such as kids toys should be hung or placed low so that they are easily reached as well as easily put away.
When placing small items back such as nails, small tools and the like it would be a good idea here to create small system drawers for these items.
I like to use properly labeled jars and cans for things like tapes, knives, screws and the like.
Just remember to keep items that you use on a regular basis easily accessible.
Simply adhere to the steps set forth above carefully.
If you do, you should be able to organize your garage smoothly and without problems.
This approach has worked for most others; it will work for you too! The hardest part is getting started.
However, once you do you will find that you will be able to know exactly what you have and you'll find what you want, when you want it.
Then the only thing outstanding for you to do is to take advantage of the great benefits you'll receive after you too, organize your garage.
