Trex and Mold

• Trex is impervious to the rot and insects that ruin many wooden decks. The dirt and pollen that can accumulate on Trex decking, however, may allow mold to grow on the deck's surface.
  
  

Mold Dangers

• Mold can aggravate allergies and upper-respiratory conditions such as asthma. Significant mold accumulation may make the decking surface dangerously slippery after a rainfall. According to Trex, mold poses no danger to the deck's structural integrity.
  
  

Mold Removal

• Remove mold from Trex decking with a commercial deck cleaner containing detergent and bleach. Trex warns that this treatment may lighten the deck's surface slightly.
  
  

Mold Prevention

• Mold feeds on pollen and dirt that accumulate on Trex decking. Scrub the deck periodically with warm, sudsy water and a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt and pollen and prevent mold.
