How to Fuse Neon Tube Glass
- 1). Blow out any excess dirt or dust left over from the glass blowing process. Attach electrodes at both ends of the neon tube glass, using a propane hand torch and latex blowing tube to fuse together the two electrodes. Ensure you are wearing protective goggles and gloves.
- 2). Fuse the glass at one end of the neon tube around one of the electrodes, using a propane hand torch. Leave the other end open. Using a crossfire burner, create a small glass bubble, known as a tubulation. This will form a channel into the open electrode.
- 3). Fuse the tubulation to the open electrode, using a propane hand torch. Apply a drop of mercury through the tubulation and into the electrode. The addition of mercury will enhance the brightness of the argon gas that will be used in the finished neon sign. The neon glass tubing is now ready to be filled with gases and attached to a power source.
