Our Favourite Rooms With A View

103 214
Much as we love it when the British summer finally comes around - the sun is out for a while, we are almost at the longest day of the year, it's strawberry season, Wimbledon is about to begin - but when the clouds roll back over and the days get shorter again, where do we wistfully think we would rather be? Like many of you, I do rather love a room with a view (it can of course also be a tent or a small cruise ship cabin).
I adore admiring soaring panoramic views from the top of a mountain or the deck of a ship or the seat of a small plane but there is something about waking up to a breath-taking vista right before your eyes - hopefully whilst still lying in bed to take it all in as the sun rises.
I regularly spend time exploring the different countries of South and Central America to make sure we have only a finely-tuned selection of places for you to stay in, be they sophisticated and luxurious, charming and local, remote and eclectic or a mix of all of the above - we make sure that where you stay reflects not only the country you are in but complements the extraordinary landscapes that you find yourself surrounded by.
It's essential that during your luxury South America holiday, your lodgings always enhance all your wonderful experiences outdoors.
One of our favourite spots is on the private terrace of one of Delfini's beautiful river boat suites with floor to ceiling windows, ideally soaking in the private plunge pool as the Amazon River drifts lazily by.
From this perfect river vantage point, you can look out for vivid scarlet macaws flying overhead and watch out for monkeys in the nearby trees or wave to local children paddling their dugout canoes alongside the riverbank.
Back on land, we adore the multitude of windows in the incredible new private villas at Awasi in Patagonia which frame the stunning steppe landscapes like fine works of art.
The most luxurious natural woods and textiles create a really harmonious look that feels like it blends in beautifully with this wild and dramatic scenery, where puma roam freely and condors soar above you.
Add to that the fact that we can step outside for a soak in our private hot tub even on the colder windy days and then curl up by the roaring fire, after we have been out trekking, riding, or on 4x4 drives with our private guide makes it all the more appealing.
When we are feeling romantic, one of the places we would love to be is in one of the gorgeous Linda Vista suites at Pacuare Lodge, nestled right in the heart of the central highlands of Costa Rica.
The luxury is the total privacy in this enormous suite, lit entirely by candlelight in the evenings and also with an enormous outdoor private shower.
Have breakfast delivered to eat out on your huge private deck after a refreshing morning swim in your infinity plunge pool as you look out for toucans in the trees above you and then head down the hill for the most exhilarating white-water rafting trip down the Pacuare River or a challenging hike up to a local Cabecar village.
There is so much to inspire you, including our very favourite views throughout Latin America - perhaps watching the New Year fireworks from a balcony at the Copacabana Palace or gazing over the vast expanse of the largest salt flat in the world from a luxury campervan - and turn your own room with a view daydreams into reality.
