Arnold Schwarzenegger Needs to Go Back to Movies
I sat down and watched COMMANDO for the millionth time the other day.
As I was watching it, I kept thinking what a horribly cheesy film it is, but how great Arnold Schwarzenegger was in it.
Then I started thinking about some of his other films and I came to the realization that I really miss seeing Arnold on the big screen.
He's a fun actor to watch and no one in the history of film can deliver a one liner quite like Schwarzenegger.
I appreciate that he has this political thing going on in California, and I'm sure it will bring him one step closer to his overall goal of world domination, but I still want to see him back on the big screen.
He still looks good for a man his age and with the help of Dr.
Atkins, he can get back in movie-star shape.
I don't really want him reprising famous characters from the 80's ala Sylvester Stallone, but I'd bet there are plenty of good roles out there for an aging action hero/part-time comedian.
But Sly is a good example of how Arnold should mold his comeback.
You start out with a rehash of a popular character and then you jump into some action movies that fit your current strengths.
Even though his old characters like Matrix, Dutch and the Terminator are better left in the past, there are a couple of films of his I think he'd still be able to pull off.
There were rumors forever that TRUE LIES had a sequel coming.
I think that would be an easy film to do a sequel to and one that his age wouldn't be much of an issue.
Other sequels could be tricky, but the good thing about his movies is that none of them are sacred to the point that he risks ruining the original by doing a sequel.
A lot of them are campy fun that we could use more of.
Or why not incorporate some politics into a feature film? Heck, he could make a movie about his political exploits and play himself.
He has just the personality to make a movie like that work.
Many people outside of California don't know the details of how he got into office or what he's done since he's been there and it would be a great way to welcome him back to the big screen.
Plus, playing himself shouldn't prove too big of a challenge for Mr.
Schwarzenegger.
But we really miss Schwarzenegger on the big screen.
We still haven't seen his replacement step up, even though I really thought Dwayne Johnson or Jon Cena would fill the role.
Unfortunately, neither of them seem inclined to take over the responsibilities and neither have the screen presence that Arnold has.
Mindless action is great, but without some charisma, it doesn't have the same appeal.
