How to Decorate for Home Childcare

    • 1). Pick a paint color to brighten up a room to create a visually appealing daycare. Paint is an inexpensive way to decorate a daycare, and it is easy to touch up if children consistently touch the walls with their hands or they like to toss toys and watch them bang off the walls. Choose a color that will help to set the mood such as a pale green or blue for a nap room or bright primary colors to paint in a playroom. Rooms that serve multiple purposes for both playroom and napping areas can go with a basic color such as yellow or off-white.

    • 2). Hang posters or art work to give a visual interest to the room, such as the alphabet or art work the kids have created. Other posters to consider are weather-related, numbers, shapes and telling time posters. Have kids create finger paint pictures on cardstock to frame and hang along the walls. Other art work to consider can be nursery rhyme pictures found in old, torn books, or pictures found at garage sales or purchased at a teacher supply shop.

    • 3). Look to your floor for help decorating, and place delightful rugs on the floor for kids to play. Rugs can be purchased that look like the world map, the United States, a race track or princess castle. Other options for floor coverings that are soft and fun to sit on include shag rugs and faux fur rugs, both can be purchased at retailers.

    • 4). Create entertaining play centers for your daycare. Play centers can include a corner for dress up, a kitchen play area, an area for trucks and sand, and a separate spot for babies to play. Hang hooks on the wall where you set up areas for kids to hang costumes, kitchen supplies and aprons, and construction gear.

    • 5). Soothe children into a deep sleep by providing a separate napping room. Napping rooms can include a calming paint color, but also stick stars to the ceiling. Stars can glow in the dark when the lights go off, or you can purchase stars and moons that simply stick on the wall. Napping rooms may also contain a small radio to play music during naptime.
