Bleeding Hemorrhoids - Should I Be Concerned About Blood in the Toilet?

103 27
Hemorrhoids can be mild or severe.
For first time sufferers of the condition it will most likely be mildly irritating.
You may find yourself scratching your bottom or maybe experience some pinching when you have a bowel movement.
Then it might go away and you probably forget about it.
However, in more severe or chronic cases, the itching and the pain can be intolerable and  can even result in blood in the toilet pan after a bowel movement.
Believe me, nobody wants to see blood in the toilet, so should you be concerned about bleeding hemorrhoids ? To begin with, let's explain why blood may result when you have hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are simply an engorgement of blood in a concentrated number of blood vessels in one localized area of the rectum.
This engorgement causes the skin surrounding or covering the blood vessels to rise up and get swollen.
This swollen skin is tender to the slightest touch and is full of blood.
So, should the slightest touch be rough enough to break the skin, blood will be released through the anus.
So although seeing blood in the toilet is a pretty disconcerting experience, it is not in itself a serious problem.
Of course this should be seen in context.
If it is the first time that you have seen blood coming from your rectum, you should contact your doctor.
This may be a symptom of some other problem and a professional diagnosis is vital before you proceed with a treatment plan for hemorrhoids.
If you know that you have piles and the bleeding has not diminished despite treatments and lifestyle changes, then you may have a more developed form of piles, such as a prolapsed hemorrhoid.
Continued bleeding, effectively indicates that your method of treatment is not working and a more radical or aggressive treatment is needed to remedy the situation.
