    Jumper Cables

    • Forget to turn the lights in your car off? Leave the radio playing too long after the car was turned off? These commonly lead to depleted car batteries, which prevent drivers from starting the car. An inexpensive solution to this problem are jumper cables. All that's needed to get drivers with dead batteries back on the road is a pair of jumper cables and a running car to "jump" the dead battery. Just attach one end of the cables to the running car's battery and the other end to the depleted battery, start the depleted car's engine and that driver is quickly back on the road.

    Tire Jack

    • Getting a flat tire is a common hazardous situation that many drivers find themselves in at some point in their lives. Changing the flat tire for the spare is a simple process if you have the right tools. Essentially, all a driver needs is the spare tire, a tire iron and a tire jack. After removing the wheel lugs from the flat tire with the tire iron, users need to position the jack underneath a vehicle's designated jack point (which can be found in the user's manual) to raise the jack to lift the vehicle so the flat tire is completely raised off the ground. Then, users simply switch out the flat tire for the spare and lower the jack to finish the process.

    Tire Pressure Gauge

    • A leading cause of tire failure is driving with low tire pressure. According to Trust My Mechanic, low tire pressure will cause the tire to bend as it rolls, where it builds up internal heat and rolling resistance. This may reduce a tire's tread life by 25 percent and lead to a reduction in fuel economy of up to 5 percent. Since tires lose about 1 pound per square inch (psi) every month, it's important to check tire pressure every 30 days. The recommended psi can be found on the sidewall of the specific tire.

    Funnel

    • Funnels are perhaps the most simple of automotive tools. They can be bought at most stores or home made by cutting off the top of a milk carton or soda bottle. Funnels are used to distribute a number of car fluids, such as windshield wiper fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluid and, for the do-it-yourself oil change, motor oil. They help prevent spilling, so that all fluids find their way into the proper areas of the vehicle engine.
