103 33
We have all heard of the so called "super-foods" that been gaining popularity in recent years.
Anti oxidants, anti inflammatory foods, and foods filled with healthy fats have become all the rage over the past decade.
So what kind of food should be classified as super-food and how much of his super-food should we eat? What are the best ways to cook and prepare of these types of foods and have you know you're getting the highest quality? There are many different things to consider when improving your health through eating 'super-foods' and we will try to clarify some of these questions and misconceptions below.
Salmon is one food that has recently gained a great deal of attention in the medical world and for good reason.
The healthy omega fatty acids found in salmon provide the human body with a vast resource to use for its own well being.
The healthy fats found in salmon have been shown to improve heart health and overall well being.
One of the most important things to consider when buying salmon is where the fish you are buying came from.
You want to purchase non-farm raised salmon which has been shown to have the least contaminants and the highest levels of healthy fats.
Some sources cite two servings of salmon or fish per week as a good general guideline for most people.
And oils are another group of foods that are gaining a reputation as being super-foods for the same reason as salmon: healthy omega fats.
The best types of oil to purchase when considering healthy fats are olive oil and sesame oil.
There are other healthy oils that you can purchase, but both olive oil and sesame oil provide a high level of healthy fats and are both readily available at your local grocery store.
One of the newest products is a mayonnaise made with olive oil.
There are many vegetables that are being regarded as super-foods but one of the most interesting in my opinion is broccoli or broccoli sprouts.
Broccoli, and broccoli sprouts, have both been shown to have possible anti-cancerous properties due to the sulfurous compounds they each contain.
Besides the sulfurous compounds broccoli is also rich in many vitamins including vitamin A which has been shown to be a powerful anti-oxidant.
If you don't like the taste of broccoli you can always juice it with some fruit juice to kill the taste.
In fact you can juice a whole host of veggies that you might not otherwise eat to gain the full health benefits of each.
So get out there and do some research on your own and find the super-foods that interest you and might benefit your particular ailments while at the same time enjoying some of the best tasting food that nature has to offer!
