Are you concerned about the quality of the water you are drinking? Does it taste chlorinated or have an off smell? Does it look clean and clear? If not then maybe you are in need of a drinking water filter.
A drinking water filter is an invention made to fit onto the piping which supplies your household drinking liquid.
These are designed to remove various contaminants, and to produce a clean usable product.
With a city or town supply, the contamination can come from a catchment area where rain runs off and finally makes its way into the storage system.
For those who use a creek, pollution can come in the same way.
Those who use wells or bores, they may find ground seepage a problem, especially with minerals salts.
When using a tank, most of the problems will come from the roof of the building catching the rainwater.
This can be airborne pollution, bird droppings or vermin that have been in the gutters.
There are a number of filters on the market which have different levels of cleaning power.
There are the low cost carafes and pitchers, these produce slightly better than ordinary water, but they are not very effective due to the small replacement cartridge, however they are portable.
There is also the carbon type which are the most common.
These fit on, or under, the sink and use a granular or block system.
They work well if they have a pre contaminant system in place.
They are capable of removing quite a large number of contaminants from the liquid.
Another is a multi media block which uses activated carbon.
It is useful in removing Giardia and Cryptosporidium, as well as volatile organic compounds and other things that may be harmful.
The Pi system is a combination of magnetic fields, carbon filtering and infrared energy which produces water similar to the water in our cell structure.
Reverse osmosis is a system which removes contaminants under pressure with pre filtering, the use of a membrane, and finally ultra violet light.
It is possibly the only system which removes just about everything from the liquid.
It does however use two to three litres for the production of one litre of usable water.
When looking for the ideal filter for your situation, why not take a look in your local plumbing store to see if they have what you need.
If you are unsure on a filter, ask someone who is experienced in them so you can get the one most suitable.
If you still cannot find any locally, a suggestion of searching the internet may be another open option.
