How to Sponsor a Child From El Salvador
- 1). Research the El Salvadorian child sponsorship programs. World Vision and Save the Children are among the larger programs.
- 2). Visit the online site, or call or write to request information and sponsorship forms. Online sites have all of this information available and sponsorship can be initiated immediately via an online form. You may be able to even see photos of the El Salvadorian child you want to sponsor. You can reach World Vision at 1-888-511-6592 and Save the Children at 1-203- 221-4030.
- 3). Choose your sponsorship level, and sometimes gender and age of the child to be sponsored. All of this information will be indicated on the sponsorship forms you will fill out and mail, or submit online, and with which you include your first payment. Most child sponsorship programs are paid for via credit card, but some may accept mailed in checks or direct deposit.
- 4). Provide your monthly payment and in return you will be issued a packet with photos, information on your child in El Salvador, and letters. Some programs send at least two letters a year to the sponsor from the child, and the sponsor can send as many as he or she likes to the child.
- 5). Record your payments. Child sponsorship is tax deductible on your federal income taxes. Your payment covers a wide variety of assistance for your sponsored child in El Salvador: medical/dental care, emergency care for their family members, education and supplies, food/vitamins, clothing, and depending on the organization you choose, spiritual guidance.
