How to Make a Mosaic Using Pebbles
- 1). Trace a concrete or stone stepping stone onto a sheet of cardboard with a pencil.
- 2). Arrange the pebbles in a design, words or a shape over the traced shape on the cardboard.
- 3). Apply a layer of thinset tile adhesive over the stepping stone with a 1/8-inch notched towel. Scrape the notched edge of the trowel across the layer of thinset at a 45 degree angle. This will ensure an even layer across the entire stone.
- 4). Remove the pebbles individually and place them into the thinset on the stepping stone the same way they are arranged on the cardboard. Allow the thinset to dry overnight.
- 5). Apply premixed grout over the entire area of the pebbles with a grout float.
- 6). Soak a sponge with cold water and wipe over the pebbles to remove the grout over the pebbles. This will leave the grout only between the pebbles. Allow the grout to dry for the amount of time dictated on the packaging.
- 7). Soak the sponge in cold water again and rub away the hazy residue on the tiles. Buff the surface dry with a clean towel.
