Basics

• To change the settings on the firewall software, click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel">"Windows Firewall." Select "Advanced Settings" from the menu panel to access the properties that can be modified. You must be logged in as an administrator in order to make changes.
  
  

Limitations

• If your computer is attached to a network domain, the system administrator is responsible for setting the policies. Some of the firewall settings may be established at the domain level so that they apply uniformly to all network computers. You cannot access or modify those settings.
  
  

Considerations

• The Windows Firewall may be turned off by an Administrator. Installing an alternative firewall product may override the Windows version. If this is the case, a notification will appear in the Windows Firewall telling you that it is being controlled by product X. You may also choose to turn off the firewall and operate without the protection it offers. This is not suggested.
