• HE detergent is designed for washers that use water efficiently. Front-loading washers are the primary kind of HE washer.
  
  

Function

• HE detergent is formulated to work effectively with the tumbling action of HE washers, as opposed to the agitating action of regular washers.
  
  

Cost

• HE detergents will not generally cost more than regular detergents that wash the same number of loads.
  
  

Warning

• Unlike other detergents, HE detergent does not create soapsuds; in fact, you may not see any soap bubbles in the machine at all while it operates. This does not mean that your washer is not operating correctly or that you haven't used enough detergent.
  
  

Tip

• Some detergents can be used in both high efficiency and regular washing machines. Typically, HE washers need half the regular amount of detergent; read the label to be sure.
