What Is Sciatic Pain?
The pain from sciatica runs from your buttocks and down the legs.
If you ever felt a tightened strenuous pain in your buttocks, this could be from the sciatic nerve being compressed.
When the pain starts shooting down your leg's, then you may have what is called Sciatica.
Many suffer from the pain related to the Sciatica Nerve.
This type of back pain can really touch ones life in many areas.
Especially at work if you have to sit or stand for long periods of time, and even at home, just trying to relax, or while driving.
Even a dull pain can cause constant emotional stress.
I have a short story for you, and I hope it helps just a bit.
In early 2003, I went to see two different chiropractors for pain in my middle back.
I found out that the pain was from the base of my neck and down the spine which was a result of arthritis.
When they went to adjust me, and loosen my back, neither one could do it.
I remember both trying, on different occasions, to loosen my back and they were unsuccessful each time.
I also recall them saying that this will eventually cause you to be hunched over as you get older, and will cause sciatica as well, unless I did a few things religiously, which were simple exercises they taught me to do.
These simple exercises helped tremendously.
But the story really took shape when I was on a cruise in 2006.
I went in for a massage, and I will never forget the words of the masseuse who said, "You need to learn how to relax".
I thought to myself, wow, those words really summed it all up for me.
Those words still ring in my ear today, and I am constantly learning to relax my body and muscles.
For sciatic nerve pain, the best thing to do is exercise the lower back and abdominal area, and then relax them as much as possible.
If you concentrate on relaxing your entire body, this will help all the muscles of your body, including your spinal column.
I have experienced sciatica pain in my life, and it feels like your own body is squeezing your buttock and there is nothing you can do about it.
It's an awful feeling and when flare ups happen, you just have to bear it.
I typically lay on my side, opposite the pain, and it does help.
Since then, doing sit-ups, and lower back exercises has helped.
My Posture is poor, so I am working on that.
I am also concentrating very hard on relaxing.
This is hard for me to do because personally, I feel tight all the time, and I realize that this tends to lead to sciatica pain.
Remember too, if you have these described pains, never assume it is sciatica, it can be an underlying issue, like a lumbar disc in your lower back, or even a spinal cord problem.
Always check with your doctor and find out what it is.
He or she may give you pain meds.
I don't personally take pain medication, but if I have too, I ensure they are not addictive.
So my tip on sciatica is to relieve the pain as soon as possible, learn to relax, exercise by building your lower back strength and abdominal muscles, and concentrate on posture.
