Natural Solution for Hair Clogs in a Sink
- Baking soda can be used to clean almost anything in the household, and a drain clogged with hair is no exception. Put a generous helping of baking soda down the drain and then try to flush it through with a kettle of hot water. Put more baking soda down the drain and continue to wash it down with hot water until the drain begins to flow at a normal pace.
- To get a stronger reaction out of the baking soda, you can pour it down the sink and follow it up with an equal measure of vinegar. Anyone who ever did experiments in a grade school science class likely knows what follows. The strong acid and strong base react with each other to cause a fizzing and foaming reaction. This action helps to clear out hair clogs that may be blocking your drain.
- Washing soda is another useful ingredient when fighting hair clogs in a sink with natural ingredients. Washing soda is a good option when the other methods aren't doing anything to clear the drain and you are left with a lot of water sitting in the sink. Pour the washing soda down the drain and just let it sit there. Wait 30 minutes or so and then start trying to force hot water down the drain or use another method of natural drain cleaning.
- A 2 liter bottle of cola works well as a natural drain cleaner. Pour as much of the cola into the sink as your sink will hold without overflowing if the drain is extremely clogged. Let the sink drain overnight, and refill it with another bottle if it drains away before morning. Then, rinse the drain thoroughly with hot water. The cola's acid should eat away at the hair that is stopping the flow in the drain.
