How to Solder Wires to High Power Resistors
- 1). Cut two pieces of electrical wire at least 4 inches long. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of each wire segment.
- 2). Scuff the resistor input lugs using sandpaper or steel wool. Wipe off any metal shavings or metal dust from the lugs and the resistor surface with a paper towel.
- 3). Hold one end of the first wire to the first resistor lug. Melt a drop of solder to both the wire and the lug and smooth the solder over the electrical joint until the solder is shiny and free of lumps.
- 4). Hold one end of the second wire to the second resistor lug. Melt a drop of solder to both the wire and the lug and smooth the solder over the electrical joint until the solder is shiny and free of lumps.
