How to Connect a Capacitor to a Sound System
- 1). Open the hood of the vehicle, locate the battery and disconnect the positive terminal (red wire) of the battery.
- 2). Go to the amplifier (usually located in the trunk), disconnect the positive wire from it using the screwdriver and connect it to the positive terminal on the capacitor.
- 3). Use a piece of wire to connect the positive terminal on the capacitor to the positive terminal on the amplifier.
- 4). Use another piece of wire to connect the negative terminal of the capacitor to a grounding spot on your car. A grounding spot is usually a non-painted metal bolt or screw. Alternatively, you can connect it to the negative terminal on the amplifier.
- 1). Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the positive wire that runs from the battery to your audio amplifier. There should be an in-line plastic capsule with a removable fuse inside, on the wire. Open the capsule and remove the fuse.
- 2). Insert the resistor in the place of the fuse and connect one of its terminals to the wire coming from the battery, and the other terminal to the other part of the wire which goes to the power amplifier.
- 3). Connect the positive terminal of the Voltmeter to the positive terminal of the capacitor and the negative terminal of the Voltmeter to the negative terminal of the capacitor.
- 4). Connect the positive terminal on the battery and wait for the capacitor to charge. The process takes a few minutes, depending on the power of your capacitor and battery. When the reading on the Voltmeter shows 12 Volts, indicating the capacitor is fully charged, remove the positive terminal of the battery.
- 5). Remove the resistor from the power wire and put the fuse back in place. Connect the positive terminal to the battery.
