The triggerfish family contains a wide variety of very uniquely shaped fish.
They are commonly offered in the marine aquarium hobby and are favorites among those that enjoy keeping large and aggressive marine ornamental fish.
Here are some of the most popular types in the industry.
Picasso Triggerfish The Picasso triggerfish is one of the most common members of the family to enter the trade.
They are rather inexpensive like the Niger trigger and are offered in a wide variety of sizes.
They commonly reach lengths nearing a foot and can be somewhat aggressive and territorial in captivity.
A very hardy species.
Clown Triggerfish The highly sought after clown triggerfish is one of the most brilliantly colored species in the family.
It is all black with yellow highlights on its mouth and upper body.
Its lower body is filled with large round white patches which probably is the reason why it got its name.
One of the larger species to enter the trade, they top out near a foot and a half.
They are very aggressive.
Queen Triggerfish Uncommon and quite large, the queen trigger fish can attain lengths of up to two feet in the wild.
However, in captivity that figure is usually smaller.
Aggressive and territorial, they require an aquarium in the vicinity of 250 to 300 gallons.
The larger the better.
Crosshatch Triggerfish The crosshatch Triggerfish is a highly prized fish that fetches prices of up to $400 per specimen.
It is one of the most expensive members of the family.
They can reach a length of 12 inches and hail from the Western and Eastern Pacific Seas.
Unlike most triggerfish, the crosshatch is a lot more laid back in disposition making it a suitable choice for a community aquarium.
Titan Triggerfish As the name suggests, the Titan triggerfish is a true behemoth.
In the wild, they reach a length of 3 feet or more which makes them the largest member in the family.
Only those with the biggest aquariums have the space required for this beast.
They are found throughout the Indo-Pacific Oceans.
Highly Territorial, they have been know to chase away scuba divers during the mating season.
