How to Replace an Ugly Drop Ceiling
- 1). Position your ladder below the corner ceiling tile. Put on the safety goggles. Often, over time, dust and debris will have settled on the top side of the ceiling tile. You will be looking up as you are removing the ceiling tiles, and the goggles will prevent the dust and debris from falling into your eyes.
- 2). Push, with the palms of your hands, one of the edges of the ceiling tile. If the ceiling tiles have been in place for many years, they may have become stuck in place. Push until the edge of the ceiling tile lifts away from the metal support grid.
- 3). Move your hands to the center of the ceiling tile and lift until the ceiling tile is separated and lifted from the metal support grid.
- 4). Tilt the ceiling tile and grab one edge with your hands. Turn the ceiling tile vertically, and bring it down through the metal grid.
- 5). Continue around the room until all ceiling tiles have been removed.
- 6). Wash your hands before handling the new ceiling tiles.
- 7). Hold the new ceiling tile by an edge, positioning it vertically. Insert it into an opening in the metal grid, and then let it fall flat against your hands. Lower your hands, dropping the tile into place in the metal grid. Make sure you have the correct side facing into the room. If the tile won't lie quite flat, lift it slightly and rotate it until it will drop into place.
- 8). Continue around the room until all the new ceiling tiles are in place.
