    • 1). Cut laminate strips that measure slightly wider than the thickness of your countertops with a utility knife. Straight edges are not vital during this process. Cut the strips wider than needed.

    • 2). Apply a coat of laminate adhesive to the back of the laminate strips and apply a coat of laminate adhesive to the edge of the countertop, using a paintbrush or paint sponge. Wait until the adhesive feels dry to your touch. When dry to the touch, the adhesive is not actually dry. When you touch the two surfaces together, the adhesive will bond tightly to itself.

    • 3). Place the strip at one end of the counter's edge and press the strip against the counter. Use a laminate roller to remove any air bubbles and gaps.

    • 4). Place the base of the laminate trimmer on the edge of the countertop so the blade rests on the top of the countertop. Turn on the trimmer and slide the trimmer across the laminate to trim it to side. Flip the trimmer over so the blade rests under the countertop and trim the bottom edge.

    • 5). Cut a piece of laminate with your utility knife large enough to cover your countertop. Again, make the piece oversized so you can easily trim it later.

    • 6). Apply a coat of laminate adhesive to the bottom of the laminate and to the top of the countertop. Again, wait until the adhesive is dry to the touch.

    • 7). Place dowel rods across the countertop in an evenly spaced configuration. Place the laminate on top of the dowel rods. This prevents the surfaces of the laminate and countertop from touching.

    • 8). Remove the dowel rods from the center of the countertop and press the laminate down. Remove additional rods and press the laminate down with the roller to remove air and to ensure that the adhesive bonds.

    • 9). Trace the sink hole on the underside of the laminate. Cut the sink hole out with a utility knife.

Place the base of the laminate trimmer on top of the new laminate and run it around the edge of the countertop to trim the laminate on the side. Do the same with the sink hole.
