How to Dump Black Water Tanks Into Sewers

104 8
    • 1). Locate the black water dump value and outlet tube, which is usually located just to the rear of the back tires of the RV. Line up the outlet tube with the sewer drain by parking the RV accordingly. The sewer drain may be a pipe or hole.

    • 2). Put on rubber gloves and remove the cap covering the outlet tube. Connect the RV sewer hose by attaching the coupling to the outlet tube and turning it 1/4 turn or until it is hand tightened. Avoid excessive force when tightening; however, ensure that the coupling is properly seated, with the small pegs on the outlet tube gripped by the grooves on the sewer hose coupler.

    • 3). Place the opposite end of the sewer hose approximately six inches into the sewer drain. Use the sewer drain cover or other easily accessible heavy object--for example, a brick or piece of wood--to hold the hose in place.

    • 4). Open the black water outlet tube valve by pulling it toward you. The flow of fluids should be heard, and there should be a visible "pulse" in the sewer hose. After the flow has slowed to a slight drip, close the valve by pushing it back towards the RV.

    • 5). Open the gray water holding tank value in order to use the soapy water to clean the inside of the sewer hose. Again check for flow, and close once the fluid slows to a slight drip.

    • 6). Remove the sewer hose from the outlet tube, being careful to hold the coupling so that any remaining fluid will drain into the sewer drain. Use the hose provided at the dump station or your own extra garden hose to rinse the sewer tube and any spills near the drain.

    • 7). Place the sewer hose in a separate and/or sanitary storage area or container, making sure it does not contaminate any vital areas. Replace the outlet tube cap.

    • 8). Either sanitize your rubber gloves and store them or carefully remove and discard them. Wash your hands thoroughly.
