Busy Moms and the Bunk Bed Quandary

103 35
So you're a busy mom.
You juggle a couple of kids and their endless list of needs (taking them to soccer practice, feeding them, doing their laundry, shopping for them, settling disputes, and so on...
as we all know this list could go on forever).
And now, on top of all of this, you're considering putting bunk beds in your kids' room.
Whether you have two sons, two daughters, or some other mix of kids sharing a bedroom together, there are many unknowns ahead and you're likely worried that bunks will cause more problems than they'll eventually solve for you.
I'm here to tell you: don't worry.
The only busy mothers who shouldn't consider bunk beds for their kids' shared bedroom are those who are such perfectionists that everything must be in a certain order and done in a certain way.
If you can let loose just a bit (and chances are you can after years of raising your children), then bunks can actually be a bigger 'plus' than you might have otherwise thought.
Bunk beds are actually a great way to provide independent space for your kids in their bedroom.
Each bed is an individual sleeping space and its own world entirely, visually separated from the other child.
This separation is perfect for prepping kids to live in separate rooms, or a great way to provide a little bit of privacy to your child, even if it's just a facade.
They'll still be able to jolt their head around the bend and see their brother or sister, giving them the comfort of having their sibling around, but giving them time to color or play video games or what have you in their own space.
Now, for the reason why you can't be a perfectionist mom and have bunks for your kids: it WILL turn into a play place.
No matter how you try to prevent it, bunk beds are just too appetizing to climb on and turn into forts.
If you can handle this, all the better.
Some parents are really picky about making sure their kids never do anything game-related on their beds, but bunks are perfect for letting them expand their imaginations (and can REALLY help in keeping the kids preoccupied while you're juggling all those other maternal duties mentioned earlier).
Of course, you should set some ground rules, particularly regarding jumping from the second level bunk to the first, and avoiding sharp corners.
Otherwise, take a step back and let the kids enjoy their space, and make your 'busy mom' self just a bit less busy.
