Becoming Your Best Self - 6 Things to Do While Waiting

We spend a lot of time waiting.
We wait for doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants, and professionals all the time.
We sit at a garage or dealership while our cars are being worked on.
Most often, the waiting space is comfortable, but it's still annoying in this day and age when we all feel we have so much to do and it's not getting down while we sit there, twiddling our fingers.
Here are some suggestions to make even waiting time productive!
  1. Read.
    Always carry a book or magazine with you.
    Whether you keep it in your car, backpack or purse, you'll always be sure that you've got something you're interested in to read.
    Personally, I hate when I'm in a waiting room and all that's there is Popular Mechanic and Golf Digest.
    I'm sure most guys get disgusted when all that's available is Oprah and Redbook.
    However, if the magazines pique your interest, check them out.
    You never know what gem or nugget of wisdom you'll take home with you.
  2. Write.
    Another great waiting idea is to write.
    Whether it's a journal, diary, a letter, paying bills, this is a great time filler.
    I carry a notebook and when I'm sitting and waiting, I jot down article ideas.
    I let my mind and eyes roam free and you'd be surprised how many and how varied the sources of inspiration come.
    In fact, I got the idea for this article while I was waiting for my mom's doctor appointment!
  3. Meditate.
    Since we are often waiting in a room with people we don't know, there is no obligation to strike up a conversation (unless you are a 'talker', then that's a good way to pass the time!).
    Because there is no obligation, it's not rude to shut your eyes and use this time to connect to the wisdom within.
    I generally find that starting with three long slow breaths gets me very quickly to a meditative space, while leaving me alert enough to hear when my name is called.
  4. Work on Laptop.
    'Depending on how long you estimate you'll be waiting, you may want to bring your laptop and check emails or do research on the internet.
    That certainly helps you feel productive.
  5. Handsewing/Crafts.
    'There are some crafts, especially needlework, that lend themselves to being toted around and available whenever we have a few moments of down-time.
    If you're involved with such a craft, make sure you've got your handsewing in a manageable container, ready to go at a moment's notice.
  6. Sleep.
    'If all else fails, take a nap! Make sure your belongings are safe so that you can truly rest and then make a few zzzz's.
    You don't have to worry about missing your appointment as most professionals or their assistants are used to waking people up gently.
