Classic hairstyles work for just about anyone of any age. They have also stood the test of time and don't appear overly trendy. Styles with straight hair can be sleek and classic. Whether your hair is short, long, straight or curly, there are myriad hairstyles from which to choose. - One classic way to wear long, straight hair is a nod to the retro styles of the 1960s. Long hair generally refers to at least two to three inches below your shoulders. Start out with pin-straight hair. If your hair isn't straight, use a flat iron. Pull the top part of your hair back, and secure it at the crown of your head using a decorative clip. Another option is a sleek, low ponytail that can be worn with or without bangs. If you want to pull all your hair back for a fancier look, a French twist is another classic option.
- There are several variations of the classic bob hairstyle. You can modernize the bob simply by adding bangs or changing the angle a bit. A classic bob is about chin-length or a bit longer. The bob should be straight, and the ends should curve under rather than flip out to maintain the classic look. The ends of a bob haircut must be sharp and defined to keep it sleek.
- Long, straight hair with bangs is a classic style that gives you a youthful look. The banks should be blunt and wide. Style your bangs so they hang straight down. You may need to use a blow dryer, straightening iron and/or a light spritz of hairspray to keep them in place. Also, adding long layers to the long portion of your hair creates movement.
- Long, straight hair without bangs is also a classic look. Try adding face-framing layers to this type of hairstyle. The layers around your face should start somewhere between your cheekbones and chin. Add layers throughout the back of your hair, as well.
