How to Restrict Internet Speed
- 1). Download CC Proxy software from its website (see Resources). When you go to the website, click on the “Download” link and click “Open” on the “File Download” dialogue box.
- 2). Click the “Run” button on the dialogue box. Now the installation procedure will begin. Just follow through the onscreen instructions, and the installation wizard will take care of the rest.
- 3). Launch the application after installation. You can access it by going to the “Start” menu >“All Programs,” where you will find “CC Proxy” folder.
- 4). Click on the button that says “Account.” When the “Account Manager” window opens, click the “New” button.
- 5). Provide the IP address in the “IP Address/IP Range” field. Enter the IP address of the computer on which you want to implement bandwidth restriction. In the “Bandwidth” field, type the download speed limit you want to allocate. You can also specify the programs on which you want to restrict the bandwidth--for instance, P2P client, download manager application or web browser.
- 6). Save these settings by clicking the “Save” button.
- 1). Download Traffic Shaper XP from its website (see Resources). Traffic Shaper XP is an application similar to CC Proxy, which lets you restrict bandwidth. When you go to the website, click the “Download” button.
- 2). Click “Open” to save the installer file temporarily on your computer memory. When the download completes, click “Run” and follow the onscreen instructions to complete installation.
- 3). Launch the application after it installs by going to the “All Programs” in the “Start” program. You will find the “Traffic Shaper XP” folder here.
- 4). Click the “File” button from the menu, and click on “New Rule.” Here, you can specify the type of Internet connection you have. Click the “Network Adapter” drop-down list to see the list of supported Internet connection types.
- 5). Click the “Direction” button and select “Download,” “Ppload” or both, depending on the direction on which you want to exercise restriction. Click “Next.” Specify the bandwidth limit in the “Limit Speed to” field--for instance, 90 Kilobytes per second. Click on the “Next” button for proceeding. Once done, click the “Finish” button, and the settings will be saved.
- 1). Download NetLimiter from its website. As of 2010, NetLimiter Pro can be purchased for $29.95, while the NetLimiter Lite can be purchased for $19.95. When you go to the website, click the “Download” button and make the payment through your credit card. In the “File Download” dialog box, click on “Open.” When the download completes, click the “Run” button.
- 2). Launch the program after installation.
- 3). Click on the “Limits” button. NetLimiter will then show you a list of all the applications on your computer that are currently connected to the Internet. You will see a text field in front of each application, where you can specify the maximum bandwidth you want to allocate to the application.
- 4). Check the “Limit” check box for setting the bandwidth limit for the application.
- 5). Click “OK.”
