Because Asian women do not typically have a crease in the eyelid, although there are exceptions, eye makeup is applied differently to Asian eyes than it would be to Caucasian or African-American eyes. There are makeup application techniques that make the Asian eye appear to be more open and visually wider. The Asian eye is very different from the eyes of African Americans or Caucasians. The lateral orbital rim, which is the bone that you can feel at the outer corner of the eye, is situated more to the front and this affects the corners of the eyelid. Asians have an additional layer of fatty tissue in their eyelids. This increases the thickness of the eyelid and prevents a lid crease from forming. The height of the lid crease is determined by fine filamentous attachments that link the eyelid to eyelid skin. Sometimes these attachments are weak in Asian eyes, which produces the single eyelid look and there is no visible lid crease as a result.

    Create an Illusion

    • Enlarge small Asian eyes by filling in your eyebrows using a pencil that is a shade lighter than your natural hair color, advises Taaz.com. Define deep-set eyes by creating the perception of a deeper crease using makeup contouring. Put the darkest eye shadow where the crease would be, which is right above the eyelid.

    Shadow, Liner and Color

    • Apply light-colored eye shadow on the eyelid and then line the upper eyelash line with a thick line of eyeliner that should be thick enough to be seen when the eyes are open. Draw a thinner line under the lower lashes. Apply several coats of mascara to the lashes. If you have sparse lashes, which many Asian women do, use false lashes.

Asian eyes look striking when color is used. Shades of raisin and plum look especially good on an Asian eye, notes Geniusbeauty.com. When applying shadow to your lids, graduate the color, which will give your eyes more depth. The darkest shade is along your eyelash line. Blend this into a lighter shade of color as you apply the shadow on your eyelid and up towards your eyebrow.

    Altering Shape; The Fold

    • If you want to alter the shape of your eye, do so by using color. Light color will make your eyes look larger and dark color will do the opposite. Look at the amount of fold that you have above the eyelid. If you have a lot of fold, go with dramatic eye make-up, especially for evening. Use colors such as rich purple, navy blue or black.

If your lids extend all the way to the lash line, eyeliner on the top lash line is not going to be visible so skip it and apply eyeliner on the bottom lash line, smudging it when you are finished using a smudging brush. Lining the lower lash line can give it definition. If the upper lid does not extend into the lash line you can line the top lash line, too, extending the line from the inner and outer corner. The best colors to use for liner include black or deep chocolate brown.
