Preparing Tropical Fish Aquariums Before Adding Fish

103 13
Keeping tropical fish is a great hobby for people of all ages, especially those with kids who don't want to risk injury due to a pet.
Keeping tropical fish aquariums requires very little maintenance as they don't have to be bathed, walked or picked up after.
Despite the fact they require little maintenance, there are a few preparations to be done to tropical fish aquariums before you can add any fish.
Simply filling a tank with water will not be healthy at all for your pets.
Here are a few things you should do to tropical fish aquariums so they are ready for your fish.
Many tropical fish aquariums have been packed away and stored for a period of time before ending up at your home.
They are often full of dust.
Tanks that have been used before need to be properly cleaned.
A common blunder made by people is using caustic cleaning materials and bleach-based products to clean them.
All cleansers leave a residue regardless of how much rinsing follows it, and ultimately the residue is harmful to the fish.
The best recommendation for cleaning a tank is using only hot water and a clean rag to wipe it down; and be careful to treat an acrylic tank with different care from a glass tank.
Additionally, steel wool rags and cleaning pads should be avoided.
Any decorations or wood you plan to add to your tropical fish aquariums must be prepared before it is put in your tank.
Often, purchased substrates will be full of impurities and dirt, so to properly prepare it you should place it in a clean container and cover it with water.
Stir the gravel and allow it to soak for 24 hours.
Then empty the water and refill using more clean water, stirring it once more.
Continue to repeat this until the water is completely clear.
This indicates that all the impurities have been removed and you can put the gravel or substrate in your tank.
Tropical fish aquariums require accessories to work properly.
Start by setting up your heater and filter and test them to make sure they work correctly.
You should allow them to run for a few days before putting any fish into your tropical fish aquariums.
It is important to have an accurate reading of your water temperature even if it feels warm to the touch, and ph and other chemicals should be tested as well.
By doing all the necessary preparations before putting fish into the tank, and by continuing to maintain your tank with regular cleaning and testing of the chemicals and bacteria levels you will have happy and healthy pets.
