There are many different ways to incorporate tile into any type of home. Floors, walls, counters, tables and picture frames can all use tile accents. The tiles can create simple colors, complex patterns or intricate mosaics. Although ceramic tiles tend to be the most popular, marble, stone and glass tiles are also available. - Farmhouse colors and picture-painted tiles are a natural choice for a country-themed kitchen. You can do a green-themed tile kitchen, for example. Large, square, forest green ceramic tiles can cover the kitchen floor, while small, square ceramic tiles in white and forest green can create the countertops, and green tiles can run in a thick line along the top and bottom of the kitchen backsplash. The middle of the backsplash can contain a large white tiles, large picture tiles, large white tile pattern. Each picture tile could have a design, such as a colorful rooster painting on a yellow background.
- A funky patio is a colorful and amusing way to add a cheerful tone to your yard. One design example: Thin, rectangular, black ceramic tiles could trim the square patio while tiny octagonal pieces of light slate, pink marble, green marble, cream glass, black ceramic, purple ceramic and turquoise ceramic tile cover the patio body. The tiles can be arranged in a swirl pattern with white cement.

A simple maple shelf can be completely covered with a matching tile arrangement. The shelf secures to a plain wall to hold decorative pitchers, picture frames or other accents.
- Adding tile to a simple fireplace can give a dull living room a rich and romantic style. Small, rectangular, burgundy marble tiles with pink veins could cover the body and the top of the mantle on the basic fireplace, while small, square, white marble tiles painted with a random pattern of pink flowers can decorate the sides of the mantle and the floor in front of the fireplace.
