Troubleshooting a Windows XP Freeze After an Antivirus Install

    • 1). Hold down the "ctrl," "alt" and "delete" keys at the same time to pull up the Windows security menu.

    • 2). Click on the "Task Manager" button.

    • 3). Highlight the installation program that is freezing and hit the "End Task" button.

    • 4). Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

    • 5). Double-click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon.

    • 6). Find your old antivirus application in the list of programs and click on it.

    • 7). Press the "Remove" button and then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.

    • 8). Reboot your PC computer. The system should no longer freeze now that only one antivirus application is installed.
