Google Chrome Crashed Message

    "Aw, Snap!"

    • An error message reading "Aw, snap!" indicates a Web page has crashed unexpectedly. There are a variety of potential causes: a conflicting anti-virus or firewall application, a browser extension not functioning correctly, a malware infection or a corrupted user profile. In the case of conflicting software or malfunctioning extensions, disable other applications and extensions one by one to see if the issue is resolved. More detailed step-by-step guides are available in the Google Chrome Help Center.

    "He's Dead, Jim!"

    • The message "He's dead, Jim!" appears when a Google Chrome tab is forced to close by the operating system due to a lack of memory. The same message appears if you closed a process with Chrome's built-in task manager, a command line tool or the Windows Task Manager. Free up more memory by shutting down other programs or running a memory manager utility to avoid seeing this message. The "He's dead, Jim!" line is a reference to a catchphrase regularly repeated on the TV show "Star Trek."

    "Whoa!"

    • If Google Chrome unexpectedly shuts down, the message "Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed" appears on-screen. An unexpected shutdown can potentially be caused by a conflicting third-party software application or a corrupted user profile. There might also be a problem with protected system files. If the message appears frequently, visit the Google Chrome Help Center to find step-by-step solutions for each of these issues.

    "The Following Plug-in..."

    • Google Chrome supports a wide variety of plug-ins and extensions and problems with these add-ons can cause the browser to crash. If a third-party utility is to blame, the "The following plug-in has crashed..." message is usually displayed. To resolve the issue, you can manually force the plug-in to close and restart through the Chrome Task Manager. Press "Shift + Esc" to see it. Restarting the browser also resets any plug-ins running inside Chrome.
