How to Remove Grainy Black & White Photos
- 1). Turn on your computer and open your photo-design application. Plug in your scanner to your computer if it is not plugged in already and power it up.
- 2). Scan your black-and-white photos into your computer. Import these scanned photos into your photo-design program. Download a plug-in that allows you retouch the grain in this photo-design program. If you need to find one of these plug-ins, write or call the software company that makes your photo-design or editing software, tell them what you are trying to do and ask what they recommend.
- 3). Open the control panel of the plug-in you have just downloaded. Two groups of controls will appear in front of you, one for black-and-white and one for color. Since you are working with black-and-white, you will be focusing on the grain, light and retouch level controls which will adjust the grain and levels of these black-and-white photos. Lower the grain intensity on the photo, observing what looks the best to you. Lower the grain size while adjusting the contrast of the photo in general. You may also have to adjust the light and retouch levels so that the black-and-white photo still looks as it should.
- 4). Print this photo out on your photo printer and use it to replace the grainy black-and-white photos you originally scanned.
