What Is DSL Line Synchronization?

104 215

    History

    • DSL was first introduced in 1998. It is able to transmit digital data through the telephone line by operating at a higher frequency and utilizing a wider bandwidth than that of the telephone. With this technology, DSL is able to provide individuals with up to 1.544 Mbps continuous flow of digital data, such as video, audio and Internet connection. It is much faster than dial-up and its technology using 3D is making it the preferred choice to cable modem.

    Function

    • Synchronization refers to the connection between your DSL modem and your telephone service provider. For example, if you are synched, you are connected and have access to the Internet. This process involves hooking up the DSL model to the phone line. The phone company connect the line on the other end to a DSLAM. When the DSL modem is turned on, it synchronizes with the DSL transceiver, or Ethernet port, and essentially connects to the Internet.

    Significance

    • Synchronization can be determined by a solid light displayed on your DSL modem. When the light is solid, it means you have connection to the Internet and your modem is synchronized with the DSL Internet service. If you are unable to connect to the Internet, despite synchronization, you may have to configure the modem or disconnect all your devices and connect them again. These are troubleshooting issues that can be very common in DSL modems from time to time.
