This type of curl has been regarded as kinky coily. It has a very tightly visible curl pattern in the form of an S shape. Some of these curls appear to be micro spirals. 4A hair appears coarse, but is actually very fine like baby hair. This is because the strands are so densely packed together. Healthy 4A hair may not shine but has a slight sheen and a soft silky feel to it. It has a spring factor of 9 to 16 inches. A common misconception is that this hair type does not grow. Kinky hair grows at the same rate as any other hair texture but, if not treated properly, it breaks off more than any other hair textures. - 4B hair type.Stockbyte/Stockbyte/Getty Images
These curls have a less-defined curl pattern. Instead of curling and coiling, it bends in a Z shape. Individual curls look like zigzags. This type is also very fine and hypersensitive to rough handling. 4B hair has a soft cotton candy feel to it, and is known to shrink up to 75 percent of its actual hair length. This type of hair needs extra moisture and loving care because it can be very fragile and dry. Treat this hair gently and avoid harsh chemicals. - To help your coils, kinks and curls thrive, it is imperative to add extra moisture to your haircare and styling routine. That way it is less prone to dryness and breakage. Use styling creams, butters and oils when styling hair. When detangling, use a generous amount of conditioner and a wide tooth comb or detangling brush. Never brush or comb dry curls. You can also reduce dryness and tangles by sleeping on a satin pillowcase or wrapping your hair in a satin cap.
