Applying for a Inland Revenue UTR Number is not a very hard process.
However, it is important to note that you must be thoroughly prepared when applying for it.
This is to ensure that you do not find yourself in a situation whereby you have to go back and forth trying to lay your hands on it.
In this article, I would like to look at some of the things that you will need in the process so you do not face any delays once you start the application process.
The first thing that you need to have is the national insurance number.
Without this, you simply cannot go very far.
If you do not have this number, it is advisable that you contact National Insurance Registration's Helpline who will help you to start the process immediately.
You also need to have with you the date that the self-employment or your partnership commenced.
You need to make sure that you start the process of getting the UTR immediately you start your business so that you do not incur any penalties as a result to the delays.
Apart from the national insurance number and the date of commencement of the business, you also need to include the business contacts.
The business contacts here include the business name (if any,) the business address, the business email, and the telephone number.
Since this is something that is mainly meant for individuals, you also need to have your name, your address, and your contact email address.
There are other personal things that you will need to look at when Applying For A UTR Number, which include your name, your date of birth, the nature of your business, and the full names and dates of birth of your partners (if you are forming a partnership.
) Notifying the tax office that you are now self-employed is what will lead you to getting your UTR.
However, it is important to realize that even if you have the UTR, you will still need to notify them that you are now self-employed.
In case that is the situation with you, then you need to forward your UTR (if you were previously in self-assessment,) or you might also be required to forward the UTR of the business if it at all you are joining a partnership that is already in existence.
Once you send this information to the tax office, then you simply need to wait for them to get in touch with you through the post.
