Advil Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal side effects include abdominal pain, belching, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, gas, heartburn, indigestion, nausea and sour stomach.
- Advil also can increase the risk of serious side effects in the intestines or stomach. Although rare, there can be gastrointestinal bleeding or perforations. Symptoms include weakness, tarry stools, and coughing or vomiting up blood.
- Like other NSAIDs (except for aspirin), Advil can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. This risk increases the longer someone uses Advil. Symptoms calling for immediate medical attention include chest pains, shortness of breath, slurred speech, weakness on one side or vision problems.
- Other rare but serious side effects include decreased urine output, rash, throat pain, pale skin, noisy breathing, unusual bleeding or bruising, and swelling of the feet, ankles, lower legs, fingers, hands or face.
- Advil can interact with several other drugs, such as other NSAIDs, blood thinners, lithium, diuretics and steroids.
