How to Patch Copper Pipe
- 1). Turn off the water supply to the copper pipe. Wipe off all oil and dirt from the damaged pipe using a rag and solvent. Use a wire brush to clean the pipe around the broken area -- this will lightly scratch the copper pipe surface, helping to create a better bond for the putty.
- 2). Cut out a section of epoxy putty from its tube. Knead and roll the putty in your hands until it becomes one uniform color throughout -- the putty is initially in two colors while in the tube.
- 3). Wrap the putty around the pipe within 90 seconds of finishing kneading. Make sure all the pipe damage is covered. Wet your fingers to smooth out the putty during the curing process -- the putty fully cures within 60 minutes. Turn on the water supply after the putty has fully cured.
