Gloxinia Plant Care: How to Let It Go Dormant
- 1). Watch the plant closely after it finishes blooming. When the foliage begins to yellow, decrease the amount of water you give it by half.
- 2). Stop watering the gloxinia completely when the foliage dies down.
- 3). Cut the dead foliage back to the soil.
- 4). Allow the tuber to remain in the dry soil in the pot. Place the pot in a dark area where the temperature does not fall below 45 degrees F or rise above 60. If the air is particularly dry in the storage area, drizzle a few drops of water over the soil periodically to keep the tuber from drying out.
- 5). Watch the pot for new growth. When it resumes, repot the tuber in new soil, water it with room-temperature water and place it in bright but filtered sunlight.
