How Do I Run Microsoft Windows Update?
- 1). Go to "Start" and select "Run" from the menu.
- 2). Type "sysdm.cpl" into the space provided and hit "Enter." This will cause a new window entitled "System Properties" to appear on your screen.
- 3). Select the "Automatic Updates" tab. You will see a variety of options which include: automatic updates (recommended), download updates, but you choose when to install them, or the option that notifies you when updates are available, but they are neither downloaded nor installed. You also have the option of turning Automatic Updates off entirely.
- 4). Select the option you desire. Once again, for the most comprehensive defense of your computer, automatic updates is the best choice. When you select this option, you can also choose when the updates take place. After you've made your choice, click "Apply" and then "OK."

- 2). Select "Windows Update" from the menu. This will cause the Windows Updates screen to appear.
- 3). Click on "Change Settings." You will see the same choices as those offered in Windows XP, ranging from automatic updates to completely turning off Automatic Updates.

- 2). Select "System and Security" from the choices provided. This will open a new set of options from which to choose.
- 3). Click on "Windows Update." You will be taken to a new window where you can choose to set up Automatic Updates as you like. You can manually update your computer as well as set the frequency of your updates. Again, Microsoft recommends that you set your computer to automatically download and install updates.
