How to Build a Willow Tree for a Play
- 1). Lay the plywood panel flat on a work surface so that it is oriented vertically lengthwise.
- 2). Draw the silhouette of a willow tree’s trunk and limbs onto the panel with a pencil. Use a flexible curve ruler to help you draw smooth flowing lines.
- 3). Cut out the silhouette using a jigsaw. Guide the jigsaw in a steady motion along the pencil lines, moving just fast enough to allow the saw blade to cut through the wood until the silhouette is completely cut out.
- 4). Rout around the outside edges of the silhouette with a router equipped with a round-over bit. Sand the routed edges until they are smooth using a fine-grit sanding pad.
- 5). Place a 5 gallon plastic bucket on a work surface. Stand the tree silhouette upright in the center of the bucket. Fill the bucket up with gravel while holding the silhouette upright. The gravel will hold the silhouette in place. The bucket acts as a stand for the tree silhouette.
- 6). Spray the outside of the bucket with a craft spray adhesive. Cover over the entire outside of the bucket with Spanish moss by pressing it onto the freshly sprayed adhesive.
- 7). Paint the willow tree silhouette with craft paints and a craft paintbrush until you are satisfied with the overall appearance of the tree.
