Scholarships for Medical Studies
- Physicians and nurses that work in developing countries are eligible to receive an International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers Scholarship. Award recipients must complete a six-week training program that comprises class courses, clinical rotations and cultural exchanges. Upon completion of the training course, scholarship recipients return to their home country to practice and teach other medical professionals how to provide care at clinics in developing countries around the world. Numbers and amounts of the scholarships vary each year.
- As of March 2011, one Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship was awarded each year.The amount of the scholarship is $1,000. A letter of recommendation from a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter is required with applications. Students must demonstrate a financial need to receive the scholarship. They are also required to enroll in a nursing program at an accredited college or university.
- The Alice W. Rooke Scholarship is awarded to students who are currently attending, or who are accepted into, a medical doctor training program. Students must attend an accredited college or university in the United States. As of March 2011, the maximum amount of the scholarship is $5,000. Four scholarships are distributed each year; the application deadline is in April. The scholarship is renewable each year.
- Students who are accepted into a medical doctor training program at an accredited college or university in the United States can apply to receive a Dr. Francis Anthony Beneventi Medical Scholarship. As of March 2011, the awards are given out in amounts up to $5,000. Students must apply for the award each year, as the scholarships are not renewable. A 3.25 grade point average (GPA) or higher is required to receive the scholarship.
